Marsha Vande Berg is an accomplished Global CEO, Corporate Director & Advisor known widely for her success in helping decision-makers harness the drivers of global disruption, digital transformation and geopolitical complexity, unlocking value for institutional investment and media/communications firms.

She is a Lifetime Member of THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS, an independent, nonpartisan organization & think tank. She is a Board Director & Treasurer for THE JAPAN SOCIETY NORTHERN CALIFORIA, a nonprofit to advance US-Japan ties. She is an Inaugural Member of the RAND Corporation Global & Emerging Risks Advisory Board, a global policy and research institute. She chairs the President’s Leadership Council of THE ASIA FOUNDATION.

Corporate and Advisory Experience

Marsha is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MVandeBerg Advisors, where she provides macro-risk advisory services to decision-makers at the corporate, Board, and public policy levels. Her focus is bespoke research to assist in identifying macro-risks and opportunities. Of note, Marsha:

  • Introduces select executives to growth options. An example engaged in major SEC Investment Company 1940 Act registered fund platform.

  • Counsels corporate and non-profit decision makers on risk and sustainability metrics. An example is Upmetrics, a San Francisco provider of platform services, on use of social impact metrics.

  • Engages organizations benefiting from her research and communication skills. An example is Impact Management Project (IMP) engagement to provide a seminal white paper. The research contributed to the creation of the Sustainability Standards used by the Sustainability Standards Investment Board (SSIB).

She was for nine years Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the PACIFIC PENSION & INVESTMENT INSTITUTE (PPI) where she led all PPI functions on behalf of highly influential institutional investors, including Asia Pacific’s most prominent asset owners & managers, who with US$25 trillion in assets under management engage globally in global opportunities. Of note, Marsha:

  • Worked with an accomplished Board of Directors facilitating two major governance transitions and a new strategic plan while building PPI’s Asia-Pacific platform.

  • Professionalized services, programming, operations, and communications—doubled revenues, greatly enhancing profile.

  • For Asian Development Bank, organized a series of Asian pension executives’ investment and governance advisory sessions.

Her prior roles were in national and regional media, including as Executive Producer/News for a CBS station; long-time City Editor for The Tennessean; Opinion Page Editor for The San Francisco Chronicle; and co-owner and Editor-in-Chief of The Ferndale Enterprise.

Global Board Experience

Marsha is an Independent Non-Executive Board Director; an Audit Committee Member; and Board Liaison to the Risk Management Committee of QUANTUM ADVISORS PRIVATE LIMITED, one of India’s most respected investment firms with offices in Mumbai, India, the UK, Canada, EU, and the US. She is responsible for holding company oversight of a US$3 billion asset allocation to India’s public markets on behalf of international institutional investors, high net worth, and mutual fund retail clients. Marsha is their expert on strategic, enterprise, cybersecurity, technology, and reputational risks; trends/global dynamics for India businesses. Of note:

  • Marsha provides oversight of Board auditors’ alignment with best practices across jurisdictions, has raised the cybersecurity risk profile on the Board agenda; and has helped advance stakeholder communications of the Company’s sustainability practices.

Marsha serves as an International Advisory Board Director for GG56 – Global Good 5 Oceans 6 Continents, a South Korean global leader in innovative new technologies solutions leveraging big data, AI, & blockchain. One of her roles is to champion the integration and implementation of ongoing, effective global governance best practices. For example, Marsha recently:

  • Guided corporate governance best practices for transparency and user privacy in blockchain-based ecosystem development.

Previously Marsha was a Board Director and Member of the Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee for TATA CAPITAL’s Singapore & London subsidiaries. After being approved by UK FSA and Singapore’s MAS, she provided oversight of a portfolio of subsidiaries developing an offshore investment banking arm of Tata Capital/Tata Group. She concluded, along with her fellow Directors that the best corporate returns would result from a strategic re-orientation.

Marsha is an inaugural director on the RAND Global Emerging Risks Advisory Board focused on the risks and opportunities of AI, biotech and biomedicine, and the US-China relationship.

She chairs The Asia Foundation’s President’s Leadership Council and serves as treasurer, director, and finance committee chair of the Japan Society Northern California.
